Felber: Another possible draft-dodger

Re: ‘Draft-dodger calling Obama un-American,’

by Thomas Gallen, letters, Aug. 20

In this letter, Mr. Gallen accuses Mitt Romney of dodging the draft, and asks “Has any other candidate for Commander in Chief dodged the draft?”

President George W. Bush served in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam conflict. It is alleged that he used political connections to bypass a long waiting list to join the Air National Guard. It has been further alleged that Mr. Bush joined the Air Guard in order to avoid combat service in Vietnam, knowing that National Guard units were not going to be used in Vietnam. so the answer to Mr. Gallen’s question is, quite possibly, “yes.”
