Fifteen arrested for DUIs during Memorial Day holiday weekend

SUMMIT COUNTY – The long arm of the law was out in force over the Memorial Day weekend, arresting more than 450 people for driving under in the influence.

The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) made 151 of the arrests. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office arrested seven people on Saturday, four on Sunday, three on Monday and one on Friday for a total of 15 people.

During last year’s “The Heat is On!” campaign, officers throughout Colorado arrested 494 people for driving under the influence.

Additionally, 18 people were arrested at three sobriety checkpoints, including one with a mobile methamphetamine lab. That person was arrested on drug charges and on a felony drug distribution warrant.

Preliminary CSP reports indicate seven people died on Colorado’s roads over the holiday weekend. Six were in vehicles and a seventh was a pedestrian. None of the deaths are believed to have involved alcohol.

The DUI Checkpoint Colorado program continued this weekend with sobriety checkpoints in Adams County Friday and another in Boulder County today.
