Finalist for CU chancellor drops out

BOULDER – Elizabeth Capaldi, vice chancellor and chief of staff at the State University of New York system and one of the two finalists to head the Boulder campus of the University of Colorado, has withdrawn from consideration.She said in an e-mail Tuesday that she has taken her name out of consideration for the CU chancellor post. She didn’t say why, though she is also a finalist for a provost position at Arizona State University.Capaldi was named a finalist for the position last week, along with George “Bud” Peterson, provost of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.CU is looking to replace interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano as head of the flagship school’s faculty, staff and more than 29,000 students.According to CU, Peterson has brought a larger, more qualified and more diverse faculty to RPI. Tenured and tenure-track faculty increased by 20 percent under his leadership, while the number of tenured and tenured-track minority faculty members doubled.Capaldi is second in command of the 64-campus New York state college system.
