Fire in Rocky Mountain Park 10 percent contained

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK – A 900-acre wildfire burning in a remote part of Rocky Mountain National Park is about 10 percent contained.

Officials say crews held and improved fire lines on the blaze’s eastern flank Tuesday. There are 237 people fighting the fire, which is in a heavily forested area of the park.

The park 70 miles northwest of Denver is open. One road and three trails near the fire are closed to make way for firefighters and equipment.

Officials say lightning started the fire June 24. Erratic winds quickly spread the flames from a few acres to several hundred.
