Fire near Leadville grows to 300 acres

A fire burning along Highway 91 between Leadville and Copper Mountain has grown to 300 acres, according to the Leadville Herald Democrat.
There are no structures in the immediate path of the fire and no evacuations are expected, the paper reports. The fire is burning up onto alpine tundra and rocky scree, which could aid firefighters, said Jon Morrissey, ranger for the Leadville Ranger District of the United States Forest Service.
The paper also quoted officials saying that since no structures are affected, the so-called Treasure fire is a lower priority than the other fires burning in the state.
