First meeting of Udall Youth Task Force today

Daily News staff report

Rep. Mark Udall, D-Boulder, will host the kick-off meeting for his Youth Task Force for Western Slope students from 4:30-5:30 p.m. today at the Battle Mountain High School library in Eagle-Vail.

“Every year I invite high school students from the Second Congressional District to participate in the Udall Youth Task Force with the purpose of helping the young people in my district to become more engaged with their government,” Udall said.

Participation in the Task Force is open to any 11th- or 12th-grade student in the Second Congressional District. The task force meets once every three weeks to discuss issues of importance to young people with invited speakers and to learn more about how they can influence legislation in Congress. The meetings will be held on both the Front Range and in mountain areas of the district in order to allow as many students as possible participate in the Task Force.

Every spring, 10 task force members join Udall in Washington, D.C., to meet with leaders in government.

“I created this program to give the young people whom I represent the opportunity to get an inside look at out nation’s capital and to explore the rewards of public service,” Udall said.

For more information, Western Slope residents can contact Dan Gibbs at Udall’s Minturn office at (970) 827-4154.
