FINAL UPDATE: First responders near finished with putting out wildfire west of Gold Hill trail near Breckenridge

Final update: 8:06 p.m.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, officials expect the small wildfire west of the Gold Hill trailhead near Breckenridge will be contained tonight. Crews are expected to return to the site on Monday, Sept. 2 to finish their operations in the area.

Update: 6:27 p.m.



According to the U.S. Forest Service, crews remain on the ground fighting a small wildfire west of the Gold Hill trailhead near Breckenridge. According to a social media post by the agency, the fire is less than one-tenth of an acre and has little risk of spreading. The agency also reported that officials on-scene are investigating the cause but so far have found no evidence of a cause or of recent human activity in the area.

Update: 5:43 p.m.



The U.S. Forest Service has taken over the response to the small wildfire west of the Gold Hill trailhead near Breckenridge, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, due to the fire being located on White River National Forest land.

Update: 5:08 p.m.

According to a Summit County Alert text message from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, first responders are still actively battling a small wildfire near Gold Hill, between Frisco and Breckenridge. The fire was approximately 60 feet by 20 feet in dimension, and evacuations are still not being considered.

4:50 p.m.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office has reported on Sunday, Sept. 1 that it — along with the Red, White and Blue Fire Protection District, Summit Fire & EMS and the U.S. Forest Service — are responding to a wildfire west of the Gold Hill trailhead, which is located between Breckenridge and Frisco.

Evacuations are not being considered at this time, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons said no further information is available at this time and pointed to the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page for further updates.
