Five dead in Loveland Pass avalanche

Five snowboarders are confirmed dead after triggering an avalanche on Loveland Pass in out-of-bounds territory above Loveland Ski Area at about 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office reported one survivor at the scene, but had no information concerning the identities of those who were involved. Teams from Alpine Rescue and Summit County Rescue Group are on the scene.
The avalanche was reported to be roughly 200 meters wide and 350 meters long. The fracture line at the top was 8 feet according to officials with the sheriff’s office.
Highway 6 at Loveland Pass is currently closed. The avalanche cannot be viewed from the highway and there is no word when it will reopen..
