For once, he agrees with Rich Mayfield

For once, I agree with the Rev. Rich Mayfield in his column (SDN, March 27) about political manipulation. However, I think he is off base comparing Alexander Butterfield with Richard Clarke.

Mr. Butterfield came from an era when some people in the government still spoke the truth, and I feel certain that he did.

However, I am afraid that Mr. Clarke will be put alongside people like Nixon, Clinton and Gore as someone who does not know the meaning of honesty.

Remember that in 2002, Mr. Clarke was trying to get a new job in government. In 2004 he is trying to sell books. Two different stories.
