For the record: Superintendent Wes Smith’s retirement letter

Wes Smith, superintendent, Summit School District

Dear School Board Members:

Please accept my resignation as superintendent of Summit School District effective July 31, 2003, in conjunction with my retirement commencing Aug. 1.

This is not the letter I planned to write. I wanted to write something eloquent that expressed my thanks for the constant support I’ve received from all members of the board with whom I’ve worked over the past five years.

You gave me a great professional opportunity. With each draft of my desired letter, words failed me.

I will continue to try to write such a letter of thanks to the faculty, staff, students, community, and above all, the board.

With mixed feelings, I leave Summit Schools for other pursuits. Please count on me to support your efforts in the future.
