Forest Health Task Force to discuss wood utilization today in Frisco

Daily News staff report

At their early morning meeting today, the Forest Health Task Force hosts Amanda Bucknam of Colorado Wood Utilization and Marketing Program (CoWood), a part of Colorado State University.

The meeting is slated for 7:30-9 a.m. in the Frisco Community Center on Third Avenue and Granite Street in Frisco.

Bucknam plans to present her organization’s work with facilitating the retention, expansion and recruitment of forest and wood product businesses as a means to positively impact Colorado’s forest management, forest conditions and forest and wood product economies. CoWood has a newly refurbished Colorado forest products database. Bucknam will also discuss the inaugural Colorado Forest Products Marking Conference, set for Aug. 18-19 at the Denver Marriot West in Golden.

Julie Shapiro of the Colorado Governor’s Forest Health Advisory Council also plans to be at the meeting, to discuss the council’s work in facilitating fire-resilient communities, restoring and maintaining forest health across the state, and ensuring consensus-oriented forest management that contributes to local economic sustainability, including private sector opportunities. The council was designed to lead efforts to address threats to Colorado’s 24.4 million acres of forest.

All task force events are free and open to the public.
