Former Breck business owner passes away

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

Vernon C. Tate, longtime resident of Colorado, passed away Friday, Nov. 30 at his home in Hartsel. He was 55 years old.

Tate was born in Mexico, Mo., to Delmar and Mary Lou Tate, who preceded him in death. He and his family moved to the area in 1980. Owner of The Shop in Breckenridge for many years before the business finally opened in Hartsel, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pat; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Michelle Tate of Littleton; and son and family Scott Tate, Shirley Spannagel, Megan, Chrissy, and grandson Bryan-Scott of Hartsel. Vern also leaves behind his brother, Tim and family; sister, Delma Lou and family; and other family members in Missouri, as well as many “family” and friends from his years in Colorado.

A memorial service will be held at the Edith Teter Elementary Gym in Fairplay on Saturday at 11 a.m, followed by a pot luck reception at the Legion Hut.
