Former Breck resident Douglas Killham dies

Daily News staff report

Douglas M. Killham of Fort Collins passed away at the age of 69 on May 12, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Doug was born in Sidney, Neb., on May 12, 1935, and was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Killham and Mabel Portz. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1954. He resided at various times in Grand Lake, Breckenridge, Denver, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Las Vegas. He had lived in Fort Collins since 1996. He had many careers, including boot fitting for the ski industry, writing for ski magazines, lecturing and museum guiding.

Doug was an extraordinary person who was loved by all who knew him. He was a loyal friend and a genuinely generous person. He was willing to share whatever he had with virtually anyone who was in need.

His many friends will remember him for his gentle wit, his insightful intelligence and his insatiable curiosity.

Doug had a different outlook on life than most. He lived for the moment and didn’t take a single day for granted. Every day was a new experience that presented some new learning opportunity that he savored. He will be truly missed.

At Doug’s request, there will not be a service, and his remains have been donated to science and the University of Colorado. It was his wish, in lieu of donations, that those who wish to make a contribution, try to help someone who is in need.
