Former Breckenridge ski instructor Hale passes away
Colonel John D. Hale Jr. celebrated life from Sept. 15, 1922 to Feb. 17, 2007. Born in the Philippines as a U.S. Army dependent, his family eventually settled in Anson, Tex. As a young boy, he worked on his father’s farm and helped with the delivery of baby mules and donkeys. John went on to graduate from Texas A & M with a Master’s degree in Animal Husbandry. His military career spanned 33 years and three wars: WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After traveling the world for the Army, he spent fifteen years as a ski instructor in Breckenridge. John was a compassionate man who was a great communicator, a commander, a warrior, a husband, a father and a dear friend. John deeply loved this wife of 31 years, along with his four children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. John loved the Lord and fellowship at Bethesda United Methodist Church. The family of John Hale would like to express our deepest appreciation to the wonderful people who helped him fight the cancer and bring him comfort during the storm.Visitation will be held between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday at White’s Mineral Wells Funeral Home, in Mineral Wells, Tex.. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Following the services will be the funeral at Dallas Forth Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Col. Hale’s name to the American Cancer Society, 3301 W. Freeway, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
