Former Denver city attorney accused of stealing laptop

DENVER – Prosecutors filed theft and embezzlement charges Wednesday against former city attorney Larry Manzanares, who is accused of stealing a laptop from Denver District Court.Manzanares, who resigned in February, has said he bought the computer from a man in a parking lot and did not know it was stolen.Manzanares, 50, also faces charges of tampering with evidence, official misconduct and computer crime.The state court administrator’s office reported the computer missing on Jan. 26, and Denver police tracked it to Mazanares’ house.Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Storey was named special prosecutor for the case.Manzanares, who had been city attorney only since Jan. 4, graduated from the University of Denver and attended Harvard Law School. He has worked in private practice and served as a county and district judge in Denver.
