Former Frisco resident Westlake dies at 78

FRISCO – Services will be held Friday in Cedaredge for Neil Deming Westlake, who died at his home Sept. 8 after a short bout with cancer. He was 78.

Westlake was born June 27, 1924, in Frisco, to parents Mona and James Westlake. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1942. He lived in Denver, then moved back to Frisco. He lived in Grand Junction for 18 years before retiring to Cedaredge 12 years ago.

He married Kathleen A. Kateron on May 10, 1967, in Raton, N.M., and worked for 25 years maintaining highways for the Colorado Department of Transportation. Westlake enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheel driving and collecting antique bottles.



He is survived by his wife; son Dorian of Aurora; stepsons Don Rutherford of Arvada and Jerry Rutherford of Denver; daughter Cathy Westlake of Montrose; stepdaughter Danetta Aggus of Arvada; uncle Harold Deming of Clifton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Taylor Funeral Chapel in Delta, and burial will take place at Cedaredge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, PO Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.
