Former Miss America to speak in Dillon

Marilyn Van Derbur, the former Miss America who made national news when she revealed her trauma of being a sexually abused daughter, will deliver a motivational message at 6 p.m. Thursday at Borders Books in Dillon.

The event is free and concerns the topic of sexual abuse.

Van Derbur was crowned Miss America in 1958 while she was a student at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

She went on to become a motivational speaker. In 1991, she revealed that she was a victim of her father from age 5-18. Her story arises from a family of wealth and privilege.

Van Derbur is a lifelong resident of Denver.
