Former resident in Florida vouches for validity of smoking ban

Todd Riceman, Sarasota, Fla.

Hurray for the smoking ban. As a former resident of Summit County, I applaud the local officials for the proposed ban on smoking in local eateries. I look forward to my next visit, if the ban passes.

I now live in Florida where a similar law went into effect Jan. 1 with compliance by July 1. With my 10-plus years of night club and restaurant experience, I have noticed only positive experiences since this law has gone into effect.

Business is great. The only change I’ve seen is small groups of smokers standing near the entrance of all eateries.

Smoking is a personal choice, drug addiction and possibly a death wish – not a right. Public health and safety is a concern for our government, and they have made a great decision!

For those who can’t sit in a building for an hour without a smoke, take a look at yourself. Maybe it’s time to eliminate your addiction to this drug called nicotine.
