Former Silverthorne youth dies in Nevada at 18

Services will be held in Rifle March 8 for Jordan Michael Dorsey, who died Feb. 27 in Ely, Nev., at the age of 18.

Dorsey was born to parents Joelle and Michael Dorsey in Vail on June 27, 1984, and spent his childhood in Silverthorne.

Dorsey attended pilot school and spent his life flying. He told friends and family earlier this year that, “When I’m flying, everything is right with the world.” Dorsey was a member of the Aircraft Owners Pilot’s Association.

He is survived by his parents, who now live in Silt; grandparents Robert and Doris Smith Jr. of Harrisburg, Penn.; Lowell and Lenore Henry of Denver; aunts and uncles Robert and Margaret Smith III of Silverthorne; Lianne and Scott Fickel of New Cumberland, Penn., Gerry and Bunny Dorsey of Heeney and Susan Dorsey of Denver; 14-year-old brother, Taylor, of Silt; and cousin Cameron Fickel of New Cumberland, Penn.

He is preceded in death by grandfather Robert Dorsey, who died in 1984.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Rifle Funeral Home, 1400 Access Road. Pastor Jim Legg of the First Baptist Church of Garfield will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to any Alpine Bank, where a memorial fund has been set up in Dorsey’s name.
