Former Summit County resident passes away

Sonja W. Neils, 57, of Jonesboro, Ga. passed away in her sleep at home on Nov. 24. Neils was born in Aberdeen, Md. to the late Wilber Edward and Teresa Maier Porter. She lived in Summit County from 1976 through 1986, and married her husband John on Aug. 12, 1978 at Father Dyer Church in Breckenridge. While she resided in the county, Neils worked at various jobs including retail shops in Keystone Village, Summit County Bank, Northwest Colorado Council of Governments and McCrerery Realty. While in Georgia, Neils enjoyed spending time delivering food and materials to those in need. She will always be remembered for her warm smile, bubbling laughter and thoughtful gifts and notes. Neils is survived by her husband, John Neils of Jonesboro and her brother, Glenn and his family who reside in Germany. Funeral services were held on Dec. 1 at The Cannon Cleveland Funeral Home in McDonough, Ga.
