Former Tigers hockey coach bids farewell and gives the new coach his blessing

Colin SmithBreckenridge

Hello, everyone. Yes, it is I – coach Colin Smith – the former Summit High School hockey coach. Since I’m still in Breckenridge, I thought it would be a good idea to touch base with some of you and explain the question, “What happened to Colin?” As you know already, I had to resign my position as head coach at SHS after a long and strenuous tenure (joke). A simple way to put it would be – timing is/was everything.I came into the position by chance from playing on the same line as former coach Jake Quigley, who pretty much passed the torch along to me. Although I come from a serious ice hockey playing and coaching background, it all came to be too much too early. After a long time trying to decide whether or not to pursue this full-time position, I came to the conclusion that this task would be performed better from someone who is already instilled and experienced within the Summit Hockey community.Hence, I give Bryan Smith my full blessing. I think he’ll do a wonderful job. It just wasn’t my time to step up this upcoming season, so I’ll continue my sales job and pursue other interests and hopefully come back to coaching in a new light. Nothing can beat the feeling of helping an individual become a better hockey player, and this feeling is the one thing that I’ll both cherish and miss the most. Thank you for all you’ve done for me, and I’ll see you around town.
