Four cited in three out-of-bounds incidents

SUMMIT COUNTY – A sheriff’s deputy cited three men and one woman in three different incidents Friday for skiing out of bounds at Arapahoe Basin and Copper Mountain.

A-Basin patrollers called police at 11:15 a.m. A patroller witnessed Andrew Ratzlaff, age and residence unidentified, slip under a rope and sign closure. The sheriff’s deputy cited Ratzlaff for violation of the Skier Safety Act.

Fifty minutes later, patrollers called the deputy back when they caught two people skiing under the East Wall. The area was closed because of avalanche danger. The deputy cited Diane DeSilva and Daniel Heieman for violating the Skier Safety Act.

Patrollers called the deputy to Copper Mountain at 2:55 p.m. Patrollers witnessed Christopher Finn skiing in a closed area. A patroller escorted Finn to the mountain base area where, according to the sheriff’s office report, the man faked a heart attack. Patrollers took the man to the medical center, and the deputy cited him a summons for violating the Skier Safety Act.
