Fourth of July is all about freedom of expression

I am amazed by the lack of understanding of the Declaration of Independence that is expressed by some who think our celebration of the Fourth of July should restrict certain kinds of freedom of expression.

Letter-writer Dan Marion said July 22 he was “personally insulted” by “religious slogans” and “symbols” freely displayed in the Frisco parade.

May I suggest Mr. Marion move to North Korea, where he is assured to be spared of the horrors of the free expression of religion.

I want to add a thank you to the Frisco Town Council for honoring the true meaning of Independence Day by encouraging the freedom of expression in its parade.

Also, I am deeply grateful to those who fought, died and continue to fight for the freedom of expression Dan and I actively indulge in.

As a Christian who believes freedom is integral to God’s love for all of humanity, I completely support the expression of Judaism in next year’s Fourth of July parade.
