Fredkelly Grant: Great column on forest rules

Fredkelly Grant
Nampa, Idaho

A fine article by Bob Berwyn on the judge restraining new forest rules (Judge slaps Forest Service for lack of conservation, July 13).

I am not a member of an environmentalist group of the type which brought the law suit; this letter is to show that there are those of us who support local government and producers who feel the same as the environmentalist organizations.

I am chair of the Owyhee Initiative, which is eight years in the making as a coalition of environmental groups, landowners and local government, bringing wilderness and wild and scenic to Owyhees in a fashion useful to all.

Had the forests been managed properly, they would be in good shape, and there would be enough water in Colorado to fill the needs of the Front Range urbanization and the irrigation needs of farmers.
