Free fishing this Saturday, Sunday

SUMMIT COUNTY – There’s no need to buy a license to fish this weekend – Saturday and Sunday are Colorado’s free fishing days.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) designed the weekend to promote fishing in Colorado.

The free fishing weekend is a great opportunity for those who wish to give the sport a try or introduce it to their children, said Robin Knox, CDOW sportfish coordinator.

“Colorado is home to a wealth of resources and this is one way we encourage people to get out and enjoy the outdoors,” Knox said. “The more people who participate in and cherish time spent outdoors, the better the future will be for Colorado’s natural resources.”

Those inexperienced in the sport of fishing can learn about places and techniques in CDOW’s “Colorado Fishing Report,” which contains information on bodies of water statewide, recently stocked waters and fishing techniques for lakes, reservoirs, streams and ponds.

Normal bag and possession limits and regulations still apply.

The “Colorado Fishing Report” is available on the Web at or by phone at (303) 291-7534.

For more information, consult CDOW’s 2003 Colorado Fishing Brochure – available at CDOW offices and licensed agents and on the CDOW Web site at
