Friends of Eagles Nest looking for trail work help Aug. 23

Friends of the Eagles Nest Wilderness will be doing maintenance Aug. 23 on the Buffalo Mountain Trail.

The volunteer group will supply a light breakfast at 8 a.m. and top off the day with a tailgate party complete with refreshments and snacks.

Meet at the Buffalo Mountain Trailhead at the top of Ryan Gulch Road in Wildernest.



Workers will obliterate old trails and prepare for a new trail to the summit. Volunteers should bring lunch, water, sturdy boots, long pants, some rainwear and work gloves.

There will a hike of several miles to the worksite.

Fundraising sunset ride on Georgetown/Silver Plume loop railroad

A private ride on the Georgetown/Silver Plume loop railroad for the benefit of Dingers Park in Silver Plume will take place Saturday, Aug. 23. Money raised will go to purchase new equipment and construct a covered pavilion and restrooms. A reception will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Silver Plume Depot, and all will board the train at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are by pre-paid reservation and cost $25 for adults and $17 for children. Price includes the train ride, hors d’oervres and soft drinks. A cash bar will be available. Any tickets remaining will be available at the event. Race 4 the Health of It registration open

 Copper Mountain – Racers can now register for the 5-kilometer Race 4 the Health of It run at Copper Mountain Sept. 7.

The race is open to all age groups and begins at noon. Early registration is $18 ($20 on race day). All participants receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and a chance to win the grand prize of a Copper Mountain season pass for the 2003-2004 ski season.

Blue registration brochures are available at sporting goods stores throughout county, and online registration is available at http://www.active.com.

Race 4 the Health of It is part of HealthQuest 2003, a weekend of health, fitness and fun in the Rocky Mountains. The event also includes a silent auction dinner, a children’s walk-a-thon, a women’s health symposium and a health expo. All proceeds go to Advocates for Victims of Assault and the cancer prevention efforts of Women of the Summit.
