Friends of the Dillon Ranger District thanks community

A huge thank you goes out to FDRD supporters for making our fourth annual Party and Membership Drive an evening to remember. The passion, energy and enthusiasm generated that evening was a great kick-off to Summit County’s 2008 volunteer season. More than 100 community members and 13 organizations dedicated to natural resource management participated in the celebration. In attendance were local elected officials, resort representatives and FDRD members – major sponsors, individual and business donors, volunteers and partners. Forest Service Representatives from both the White River National Forest and the Rocky Mountain Region attended, to show appreciation of Summit County’s incredible stewardship efforts on our local National Forest lands. Regional forester Rick Cables reflected in amazement and appreciation of FDRD supporters: “It’s really an exercise in passion.” Maribeth Gustafson and Mary Morgan, forest supervisor and deputy Ssupervisor, joined Cables in thanking and celebrating FDRD supporters and their volunteer efforts. That evening, participants became FDRD donors, renewed their donor membership, and signed up for participating organizations’ efforts this summer, including FDRD’s Forest Stewards Program and eight service projects. Two attendees joined FDRD’s Board of Directors. Due praise and appreciation goes out to the evening’s sponsors – Copper Mountain Resort, Vail Resorts, A-Basin Ski Area, Backcountry Brewery, Hearthstone Catering, Mi Zuppa-Frisco, Subway Sandwiches, City Market, and Safeway – for providing exciting prizes and tasty treats throughout the evening. In addition to FDRD donors, volunteers, and partners, we would like to thank our major sponsors: National Forest Foundation, The Summit Foundation, Copper Mountain Resort (founding Corporate Sponsor), Colorado State Parks, Alpine Bank, Town of Frisco, Vail Resorts, Town of Breckenridge, El Pomar Foundation, and the Forest Service for their generous support of our organization and programs. We look forward to a fun and successful 2008 summer volunteer season with all our members. To get involved, contact Guff Van Vooren at or (970) 389-6058, or visit
