Friends of the Lower Blue give thanks

Frank Isenhart, Secretary/treasurer Friends of the Lower Blue River

The membership and Board of Friends of the Lower Blue River (FOLBR) want to thank the owners and staff of Blue Valley Ranch for their wonderful hospitality July 19th.

FOLBR is a nonprofit citizens’ group, founded in 2001 to help support and foster the rural, open-space, and environmental values of Summit County’s northernmost valley.

This year, our summertime annual Meeting was held at the Blue Valley Ranch, and was attended by more than 95 people.

The ranch’s General Manager, Perry Handyside, and his staff were tremendous hosts.

It was clear to all of us that Paul Jones, the owner, has directed both money and effort toward a superlative stewardship of the 25,000 acres his ranch embraces.

We were briefed at length on the extensive results his staff have accomplished:

forest management, fire mitigation, rebuilding of riparian and wetland areas, careful attention to land for agricultural and livestock purposes, ongoing reforestation process that accompanies logging of pine-beetle trees and the protection of the ranch’s various wildlife species.

Throughout the morning and early afternoon, Perry Handyside, John Kossler (Natural Resource Manager), Tim Robertson (Livestock Manager) and other ranch staff were most generous with their time ” providing important background on Blue Valley and its involvements, answering many questions from the audience and later helping to direct a “walk-about” to several of the nearby barns and outbuildings.

The specific professional knowledge that Jones’ team possesses is an important resource that can benefit both Summit and Grand Counties.

Again, we thank them for our day together.
