FRISCO – It’s time to don the old Western clothes and help raise money for the Friends of the National Rifle Association’s annual fundraiser Saturday.

“They can dress as Western as they want … (but) no horses,” said committee chairman Bob Dillon. The theme for this year’s event is “Old West.”

Saturday’s festivities begin with happy hour at 5 p.m. at the Frisco Holiday Inn. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by auctions.

“We have silent auction, live auction,” Dillon said. “We have raffles, we have drawings … all kinds of stuff.”

Last year, Summit County saw a 107 percent increase in the money raised at the fundraiser – from $14,000 in 2001 to $29,000 in 2002 – the highest increase in the nation. This year, committee officials hope to beat last year’s numbers, Dillon said.

All proceeds are used for local and state programs, such as kids’ shooting sports, women’s self-defense and law-enforcement training, Dillon said. It does not fund political actions. At least 50 percent of the money raised Saturday will be used for programs in Summit County and surrounding areas.

Tickets for Saturday’s event are $40 for individuals and $75 for couples. Although they will be available at the door, Dillon recommends purchasing tickets in advance. Call Dillon at (970) 724-3311, or stop by the Farmer’s Korner Phillips 66. The public is invited.
