Friends Welcome winners honored

BRECKENRIDGE –  The Breckenridge Resort Chamber (BRC) Wednesday announced the May winners of the Friends Welcome program, which teaches employees how to offer superior customer service.

The winners receive $120 worth of gift certificates for use in a variety of businesses throughout town.

Honored were Barbara “B.J.” Huffman, who works at the Breckenridge Post Office; Paul Pandow of the Village at Breckenridge; Joey Primus of the Breck Inn; and Stephanie Seal-Coon of Tannhauser Condominiums.

Daniel Johnson of Breckenridge nominated Huffman, saying she is always upbeat and wearing a smile.

“I must admit that each time I get to the front of the line, I hope that B.J. will be the person who serves me, because each time it is enjoyable,” Johnson said. “B.J. is knowledgeable. In dealing with B.J., I have found that she leaves me with positive impressions, and I have a desire to return. I think she is an example of a really great service provider in our community.”

Erin Gilchrist, the food and beverage director at the Village at Breckenridge, nominated Pandow, who works as a banquet manager at the facility and whose staff received a standing ovation from a conference group last week.

“Paul handles his department with the utmost professionalism, and we have received nothing but rave reviews since he joined our staff last August,” Gilchrist said. “He is a true team player and helps in any outlet whenever needed.”

Sara Lucio of Brighton nominated Primus for going “over and above” his duties to accommodate her group.

“He’s the kind of person you want to see at every hotel,” Lucio said. “Joey was like a good friend. He’s a kind person who deserves to be recognized for the excellent job that he did helping us out. We will definitely be back.”

Jim Wheeler, manager at Tannhauser Condominiums, nominated Seal-Coon, his front desk manager.

“Two couples came to our front desk and asked Stephanie where they should go to rent a car, and she spent the next half-hour covering everything from Glenwood to Denver,” Wheeler said. “She got maps and showed them where all of the places they were interested in were, how to get there, how long it would take, etc. She then called the car rental places to get them the best rates. They were thrilled, and they won’t forget her.”

The BRC is taking nominations for the Friends Welcome Rewards and Recognition Program, which will be awarded at the next mixer, July 16 at Ten Mile Station at Breckenridge Ski Resort. To obtain a nomination form, contact Jen Federocko at (970) 453-2913 ext. 206.

The customer service training program is free to Breckenridge businesses and takes approximately 60 minutes to complete. Employees and businesses receive certificates noting that they are Friends Welcome-certified.
