FRISCO ” At almost 9,100 feet above sea level, Frisco isn’t exactly a wine-making region. But that doesn’t mean it can’t have its own signature wines.

As part of the town’s “Autumn Spectacular” celebration, Frisco partnered with Guy Drew Vineyards in Cortez to offer two special bottles with the town’s labels.

One is “9097 Main Street,” a red Meritage; the other is “Peak One Gewürztraminer,” a white, sweet wine.

Tim Bock, the town’s marketing director, said the wines were produced and labeled to pair with the Autumn Spectacular and to add more marketing appeal to attract visitors to Frisco during the fall.

“We wanted a red and a white so we got together a group that tried several different bottles,” Bock said.

The group included town staff members plus Frisco restaurateurs Bobby Kato from Tuscato, Bobby Starekow from Silver Heels, Suzanne Johnson from the Wine Merchant and Kathleen Kennedy from the chamber of commerce.

“For a Colorado wine, I think they’re very well made,” said Suzanne Johnson.

“The red is a pretty big wine with quite a bit of oak and that vanilla, cedar-box quality. It would go very nice with grilled meats.”

The Gewürztraminer, she said, would go well with Thai food or cheese.

“It’s a pretty wine with little residual sugar, nice minerality and good viscosity,” Johnson said.

Both wines are available at liquor stores and most restaurants in Frisco, Bock said.

Johnson said she has the Meritage priced at $17.99 and the Gewürztraminer at $14.99.
