Frisco Funground Park razed today

FRISCO – Deconstruction of the Frisco Funground Park at Frisco Elementary School takes place today and Tuesday and volunteers are needed.When the wooden structures are gone, school officials will build a safer playground.Wood from the old playground will be taken by the U.S. Forest Service for reuse on trails and other projects.The new Frisco Funground will be constructed during a five-day community build Aug. 10-14. Project volunteers say the building of the new playground will require the work of 1,000 volunteers.”The Frisco Funground is the largest, most widely used playground in Summit County,” project coordinator Sam Meister said. We really need the help of the entire community to make this project a success.” The new Frisco Funground was designed by the students of Frisco Elementary School. Features will include a music area, dragon slide, climbing walls, a shark sandbox and more.Volunteer jobs available during the five-day build include construction captains, construction workers (no experience necessary), special needs designers, artists, child care helpers, food preparers and servers.To find out how you can help, call Meister at (970) 389-3932 or Anna Sones at (970) 468-0450. Voters approved the Funground Park remodel along with a new addition and renovation of Frisco Elementary School during the November 2004 election.The rebuilding of the funground will be complete in time for the start of school and the school addition should be completed by November.
