Frisco marks Oktoberfest and Volksmarch this Saturday

FRISCO – The Frisco Chamber of Commerce and the town of Frisco are hosting the third annual Frisco Oktoberfest in conjunction with the third annual Frisco Volksmarch 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.On Main Street, Backcountry Brewery, Pug Ryan’s, Dillon Dam Brewery, Breckenridge Brewery and the Great Northern Tavern will be pouring their Oktoberfest and other brews. Frisco Oktoberfest 2004 commemorative beer steins are available for $15, including one beer. Beer tickets will cost $4.The Summit Concert Band kicks off the entertainment by performing Oktoberfest music from 11 a.m. to noon at the Gazebo in the Historic ParkRight after, Peter Krainz and his oompah band, TAG (Those Austrian Guys) take the stage. Die Volkstanzgruppe (German dance group) also will perform on the stage, then encourage the audience to join them in some Bavarian dance steps. Kim & Oz will put their humor on display while coaxing the crowd to join them in a polka.Brats, knockwurst, pretzels, strudels and other German fare from some of Frisco’s finest restaurants will be on sale.New this year is the Beer Stein Relay, Pretzel Toss and the Team Keg Rolling Contest. Organizers are urging people to choose their teams. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.People looking for some exercise before bending their elbows can join the Volksmarch group to hike any of the 5k, 10k or 15k trails in the morningRegistration is free, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Schoolhouse Museum at 2nd and Main. The action continues after 5:30 p.m. when the Backcountry Brewery and restaurants and bars offer special fare. For information, call (970) 668-5547.
