HARRIET HAMILTONsummit daily news

FRISCO A special election to fill the town council seat vacated by Deb Helton will be held on the same ballot as the towns regular April 4 election, the Frisco Town Council decided Tuesday night.Helton stepped down last week, two years into her four year term, because of continued health problems. Her resignation brings to four the number of council seats to be decided on in the upcoming election.Friscos town charter requires the council to appoint a replacement for any vacated seat or order a special election within 45 days. If the council chooses to hold a special election and any regular election is already scheduled within the next 45 days, the charter requires the two contests be held simultaneously if possible. Six candidates filed petitions with the town before the March 3 deadline for the three regular seats. Councilmembers Dan Fallon and Rick Amico are both seeking re-election. Local businessman Bob Bloch, restaurant owner Woody Van Gundy, bed and breakfast owner Kathleen Kennedy and attorney Kent Willis are also vying for seats. The candidate receiving the fourth highest number of votes will be elected to serve the last two years of Heltons term.In other business, the council passed a resolution to hire Hill & Company, an Edwards-based consulting firm, to develop a brand position and marketing plan for the town.Harriet Hamilton can be reached at (970) 668-3998, ext. 13624, or at hhamilton@summitdaily.com.
