Frisco urged to reject retail on public land

Christy CamptonRivers Clothing Company & KODI RaftingFrisco

As a 10-year Frisco resident and the co-owner of two small businesses in town, I feel compelled to write regarding the upcoming decision on Tuesday for the 9.4-acre, publicly owned parcel. If elected officials choose a retail development as their only option, (which seems inevitable), I will be truly baffled. Please listen to the homeowners and the business owners of this wonderful mountain town. After all, I believe that you were all elected to listen to the residents.I have not spoken to a single person who is in favor of this. Even the few people that I have spoken to who are undecided about it are furious that the council is not, at the very least, listening to the residents. You haven’t even asked us. Your argument is that we need more tax revenue. There are other options to find tax revenue. The majority of residents do not want this. The only way to prove that is to take this to a town vote. If you ask any real estate broker in town what the toughest market is in Summit County right now, the answer will be Frisco. Frisco is hot. There is very little inventory on the market. Why is that? It is because people love Frisco like it is. The growth we have experienced has been, for the most part, well planned. People like the fact we do not have a mass of big box retailers. People come into our store all the time and say what a nice quaint small town this is. They love the experience of dining and shopping on Main Street because it is different. Please do not destroy Frisco’s character forever. Please do not take away the fact that we are different. Please vote against any retail development on the 9.4-acre parcel.
