Frontier Airlines and Vail offer package deal

VAIL – Frontier Airlines and Vail Resorts today will announce an “unprecedented” ski and flight pass program.

The heads of Frontier Airlines, Vail Resorts and the Colorado Tourism Office will meet the press at 1 p.m. at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in northeast central Denver. Speakers include Jeff Potter, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Frontier Airlines; Adam Aaron, chairman and CEO of Vail Resorts; and Stephen Szapor, Colorado Tourism Office chair, who will present their “combined sales and marketing initiative” to the press.

The head of two of the five Vail resorts alluded to the destination-visitor marketing move last week at a Summit County Chamber of Commerce preseason conference at the Copper Mountain Conference Center.

“We might be giving United Airlines life support, while Frontier is doing what we need,” said Roger McCarthy, chief operating officer for Keystone and Breckenridge ski resorts.

During the discussion among Summit County ski resorts’ COOs on how to lure more destination travelers, McCarthy was referring to an instance where a skier told him it was cheaper to fly to Utah with a layover in Denver, than to fly directly to Denver.

The new sales and marketing initiative will be the first of its type in the travel and leisure industry, said Vail Resorts spokeswoman Kelly Ladyga.

Frontier Airlines is publicly traded on Nasdaq under FRNT.
