Fuel cost, snow hurting Steamboat Springs, Routt County
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS ” High fuel prices and deep snow are burning through the Steamboat Springs and Routt County budgets this year.
Routt County officials say the cost of driving their vehicle fleet is running 21 percent higher than what the budget predicted.
They say the county is on a pace to spend $115,000 more than it expected.
Steamboat Springs officials say the city has spent more than half its fuel budget for mass transit, snowplows and other vehicles, and the fiscal year still has eight months to run.
City Finance Director Lisa Rolan says she expects fuel costs to go higher.
