US Highway 6 reopens after a fuel tanker crashed near Arapahoe Basin Ski Area

The driver of a semitractor-trailer carrying fuel as been extricated and transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries following a crash on U.S. Highway 6 near Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, according to a statement released by Summit Fire & EMS around 1:15 p.m.

When crews arrived, the driver was found trapped and unconscious after crashing into a snowbank, and crews worried that the tanker might be leaking. A follow-up statement by Summit Fire & EMS explained that there was no leak, but the tanker was carrying hazardous material.

Highway 6 reopened between Keystone and Loveland Pass after it was shut down for a few hours, according to CoTrip.org. The highway was closed so that a heavy wrecker and crews work on cleaning up the crash.



Summit Fire & EMS says the driver “may have suffered from a medical issue” before the crash.
