Fundraiser tonight for student in need of kidney transplant

Daily News staff report

A fundraiser is being held tonight for Sergio Ruic, a former Summit High School student in need of a kidney transplant. His illness has caused him to leave school.

“Sergio is a good son, an excellent brother, an extrovert; he makes friends easily,” said Theresa Antunez, family liaison and pre-collegiate assistant at Summit High.

Antunez said Ruic enjoys playing sports, and was the goalkeeper for the varsity soccer team. He also enjoys spending time with his friends, and loves to read.

“At school, Sergio is an excellent student,” Antunez said. “He respects his teachers, and his classmates. He is nice, and participates in class. We miss him, and we hope that during this difficult time he remains the same Sergio we all love.”

The event takes place tonight in the high school cafeteria, from 5:30-8. There will be Mexican dancers, and food is being donated by Carlos Miguel’s, Hacienda Real and Fiesta Jalisco. Copy Copy, the Keystone Conference Center and Comfort Suites are also sponsoring the event.

Admission is $10/person, or $25 for a family of two adults and two children.
