The Summit Garden Club recently donated $1,200 to Silvana’s Community Gardens in Silverthorne to create a welcoming entrance into the garden by constructing a pedestrian bridge off of Rainbow Drive.

“As we all know, more and more people and businesses have become aware of the need for educating the public about the value of ‘growing your own,'” said Sheri Goff, publicity chair to the Summit Garden Club. “Silvana’s Community Gardens has been ahead of the trend for community organic growing. We are pleased to present them with a grant to further their efforts.”

Based on the design and engineering donation of Walter Roehrs, Roehrs Engineering provided plans and materials to Silvana’s Community Gardens to submit for a permit to build the bridge. The organization anticipates construction to be completed before this October with recycled/composite decking materials to be donated by Specialty Wood Products. The entire project is estimated to cost about $5,000.

Funding that contributed to the donation are collected from the Summit Garden Club’s Annual Garden Tour, this year scheduled for July 24 (www.summitcountygardenclub.org) Tickets may be purchased at Neils Lunceford, Summit Landscaping and Alpine Gardens as well as the Community/Senior Center and through club members. Tickets will be $15 the day of the tour

Registration beings at 9 a.m. at the Summit County Community/Senior Center Registration: The tour runs until 3 p.m.
