Gary Bergman: DMV belongs in central location

Maybe I’m missing something here! In the 1970s, Zelda Ashlock ran the motor vehicle office in Breckenridge. For those who remember our dear friend, Zelda had a sign posted in the office saying: “We don’t care how they do it in Denver! This is Breckenridge” and we still were issuing our beloved “ZL” plates when there were less than 3,000 full-time residents. But it was determined Breckenridge was not convenient for the residents, so the office was moved to a new location in the middle of the field at Farmers Korner with the driver’s license office next door, and that worked just fine. As the county grew it was decided we needed a more central office in Frisco, so let’s build a larger office at the County Commons in Frisco, which is central for everyone and seems to be working fine. And now we are going to move it back to Breckenridge!

How about our county officials share an explanation on this move. Please don’t spin the financial savings involved as that may be hard to believe.

Parking is a disaster now at the Breckenridge county offices, what accommodations are being made to handle the increased traffic? Guess we have a two-lane section of road into Breckenridge now, so let’s fill it up with a few more cars making the trek to Breckenridge to visit with motor vehicle office in winter even more of a challenge and use up more of our precious oil supply.

Lets stop the insanity now! Why are we trying to fix something that isn’t broken?
