Gee, maybe I should divert funds, too

RE: Summit pols stand up against robbing tobacco tax revenue. It’s good to see our representatives standing up against the crooked bait-and-switch hypocrites who would plunder yet another voter-specified fund. Thanks to Rep. Gary Lindstrom and Sen. Joan Fitz-Gerald.In my business (corporate finance), if I helped a public company raise money from investors to acquire new operations and spent it on paying off old debts, we all could go to jail (or at least be subject to a variety of unpleasant lawsuits and regulatory punishments). Maybe the next Colorado constitutional amendment should make politicians who do the same with our taxpayers money subject to the same consequences.Or maybe this year it just means it’s OK for me to “divert” the FICA taxes I owe that are earmarked for Social Security for my own “emergency” use – say to pay off the mortgage or use for “business expenses” in entertaining clients on the ski slopes.
