Georgetown needs volunteer labor to help build a playground

Georgetown is hosting an old-fashioned “barn-raising” in Sept. 15-19 and everybody in the mountain community is invited to help build the new Foster’s Place playground. The playground is the culmination of a year’s worth of fund-raising projects. From concerts in the park to monthly ice cream socials in downtown Georgetown, efforts to raise money for the park have been continuous and highly successful. Organizers are just a few thousand short of their goal of $164,000, and remaining fund-raisers already scheduled will probably put the project in the black. Anything over the amount needed to build the park will be put in a special fund to maintain the playground. This cost, however, depends on the community actually providing the labor necessary to build the playground. If you can wield a hammer, carry materials, sand a board, look after children, serve food or watch a table, Kim Werlin of Georgetown has a job for you. Werlin is signing people up for three daily shifts: 8 a.m. to noon, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to close. Meals and childcare will be provided. Call her at (303) 569-0750 or e-mail kbknox@aol.com. For information, visit http://www.fostersplace.org.
