Get ready for the Summit County Safe Summer Kick Off

SILVERTHORNE – The 10th annual Safe Summer Kick Off will be held on June 5 from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Silverthorne Elementary School. This event is sponsored by the Silverthorne Police Department and other emergency service agencies in Summit County. This event is a great way to kick off the summer, by providing education and equipment to keep children safe for the summer. During this event, there will be free giveaways of bike/skateboarding helmets, reflectors, water bottles, fishing poles, safety booklets, and other safety equipment. There will be free fingerprinting for children, helmet decorating, music and fun activities, and a chance to take a tour of emergency service vehicles and equipment. There will be a car seat inspection area to check for proper fit and safety by certified technicians. With a donation, new car seats will be available. Bicycles will be given away to winners of an essay contest. The essay questions had been passed out to all elementary school teachers in the county to be given to the children. Winners have been chosen and were notified by the police department by mail. Winners of this contest must bring the letter they received in the mail to the event on June 5th to pick up their bicycle. This event is fully funded through donations and grants given by individuals and businesses throughout the county. We would like to thank the following businesses for their donations to this event: Summit Foundation, Wal-Mart, Colorado Mountain Express, EMS Board, and Climax/Henderson Operations. If anyone has questions, they can contact the Silverthorne Police Department at (970) 262-7320. – Daily News staff report
