Daily News staff report

DILLON – A car accident Tuesday on Highway 6 in Dillon resulted in a fatality.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Dillon Police Department responded to an accident on Highway 6 and Roberts Tunnel Road.

A white Nissan Frontier traveling eastbound on Highway 6 rear-ended a van that was unoccupied and parked off the road, on the shoulder.

The collision caused the unoccupied van and the Nissan Frontier to roll over an embankment, the Frontier doing a complete revolution with a driver and two passengers on board.

The vehicle that caused the accident was driven by a 16-year-old male from Golden and had another 16-year-old male passenger and a 16-year-old female passenger. Both passengers are from Arvada.

The two passengers were taken by Flight for Life ground ambulance with critical injuries. The female passenger later died from her injuries. The driver was treated and released.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the accident. However, charges against the driver are pending further investigation.

Anyone who saw the accident occur or knows anything about it should call the Dillon Police Department at (970) 468-6078.
