Girl Scout Cookies for the Troops

Twenty-one Girl Scout Troops in Summit County, involving girls aged 5-17, solicited donations for our “Summit County Troops” when selling Girl Scout Cookies. The response was tremendous, amounting to about 820 boxes of cookies! Wow, what and effort! Thank you so much to the generous members of our community who supported the program, and to our fabulous Girl Scouts for their effort. Also, Troop 3829 made some beautiful cards for the troops which will go into the packages.

Liz Wickert, representing the Rotary Club of Summit County’s Troop Support Program, received the cookies from Mary Lorch, and her Girl Scout supporters, on March 17, for shipment to our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. It will make their day when they open up the packages. Tara is a member of our military to whom we send packages. Her mom has told us that Tara can’t wait to receive some Girl Scout cookies so that she can share them with members of her flight crew in Afghanistan, since they provide a reminder of the good things at home, and Summit County in particular.

The Rotary Club of Summit County is grateful for this huge donation from the Girl Scouts. Also, monetary donations are solicited from the public to help pay for the postage and stuffers (small packets of snacks and toiletries which fill the spaces between the cookie boxes). Checks, made payable to the “Summit County Rotary Charitable Fund,” may be mailed to PO Box 4401, Frisco, CO 80443. Write for “Troop Support” on the check. Donations are tax deductible. For further info, or to provide the mailing address of a deployed member of our military with ties to Summit County, contact Alan or Liz Wickert at (970) 453-4778 or SummitRotary@aol.com.
