Glen Graber: Enforce bike rules in Breck

With the increased emphasis on Breck as a “bicycle friendly” town, we’re going to need increased support from Breck Police. The recent recognition by the League of American Bicyclists should be accompanied by a grant to cover the increased liability the town may suffer by fostering the additional congestion and risk.

There seems to be no respect by many cyclists for any traffic signs. If there is an ordinance requiring bicycles to observe rules of the road, it has no apparent enforcement, any more than the dog feces ordinance, the unleashed dog ordinance, the barking dog ordinance or the excessive amplification ordinance – other myths of the Kingdom of Breckenridge.

Painting glyphs of bicycles on the side streets is very nice but won’t do much to create bike lanes where no room for them exists (“shared lane marking”). The new artwork on the pavement of eastbound Ski Hill Road at Main Street is ludicrous.
