Glenn Schutz: Does Summit really need more affordable housing?

Glenn Schutz

Frisco Town Council members as well as town employees have repeatedly espoused how in great need Frisco is of affordable housing. These are the individuals who are leading the town and telling us what we need. Yet there are affordable housing units that are 10 minutes away that have sat unpurchased for over a year between Frisco and Breckenridge. How can this be if there are individuals that are in dire need of affordable housing?

Summit County is also looking for suitable land in and around Frisco to develop as affordable housing. I wonder, have the town of Frisco and Summit County communicated on this topic? Do they know how many units each is looking to build? Once we have all of these “affordable housing” homes will there be some one to purchase them and if not, what happens then?
