Global Summit gives awards to helpful community organizations and businesses

SILVERTHORNE -During a recent Global Summit celebration dinner in Silverthorne, the community integration and education initiative honored four years of work by acknowledging good works done by other local organizations.

The evening event Friday also incorporated dinner, a slide show and multiple speakers.

According to Megan McGee Bonta of Global Summit, awards were given to:

Summit School District: For its focus on cultural inclusiveness and awareness throughout its system, including diversity training for the school board and teachers, as well as creating cultural inclusion committees. The district is also involved in a multi-lingual outreach program to communicate with parents, students and staff about the barriers faced by immigrant students.

Dillon Valley Elementary: For the work regarding diversity and its dual-language program.

The Peace by Piece and International Club student groups: For their work regarding cultural inclusion in Summit High School and the Summit County community, as well as doing diversity training.

NRC Broadcasting, Inc.: For encouraging informational access by sponsoring the “Ritmo Latino” radio show and bringing full-time Spanish-language radio to Summit County.

Summit Public Radio: For bringing Spanish-language media to Summit.

Summit Daily News: For encouraging awareness about two-way integration through the “High Country Hero” article series and the Global Summit blog.

Summit County Law Enforcement Latino Advisory Council: For its work to bridge the communication gap and build trust between the Latino community and Law Enforcement in Summit County.
