FRISCO ” State and federal grants for residential solar could add up to $3,000 cash-back, plus a 30 percent federal tax credit, town officials said Thursday. There is still rebate money for up to six local solar hot-water projects.

“The installations have to be done by June 15. It’s keeping the local certified installers busy,” said Frisco planner Jocelyn Mills.

A ball-park cost for average-size residential installations is between $8,000 – $12,000, Mills said. Upon completion of the projects, property owners can expect money back in a couple of weeks. Commercial projects can also apply.

There are a few paperwork steps required, but the town can help with the process. Rebate funds are coming from the Governor’s Energy Office.

With a combination of the rebates and tax credits, Frisco home and business owners can save up to 50-55 percent on solar hot water installations. The systems can save anywhere from $250-$500 per year in energy costs.
